Astronomy Introduction

Something I have been interested in from boyhood...

Over 10 years ago I bought a SCS Astro 6 inch reflector, these were of the same design as the TAL scopes, apart from a change in the colour and the tube was in one piece. This was a fairly inexpensive scope, but it rekindled my interest in the hobby.

After using the SCS for a year or so, I was able to afford a better scope, and I opted for the Meade LX200 8 inch. The goto mount made the hobby much more enjoyable.

I should say that I don't do much with the scope apart from casual observing - I really can't be bothered to doing much else - until now that is. I've bought a Meade DSI pro camera, and the intention is to have the scope outside, and me inside (nice and warm) Unfortunately I've not had much chance to do any imaging with the new camera, work and clouds have got in the way.

To amuse myself, I've started on a couple of projects for the scope. The first is complete, which is the modification of the focus control to incorporate roller bearings. The second will be the construction of an electric focusser, this I have only made one part for so far.
